Our Devon holiday

As international holidays were off limits this year - our intention had been to spend an extended time in a German speaking country over the summer - we finally had our family holiday in October, staying at a farm in Devon. This was self catering, in a lovely cottage, together with the in-laws: great fun for the kids, and wonderfully relaxing for us adults! One of the highlights for the kids was that they got to feed the chickens at the farm and collect their eggs at "chicken o'clock", and most days we simply went to a beach and spent the day... looking at the wildlife in rockpools, playing with new friends, going body boarding (in full rain gear!!! because that wasn't planned...) - the kids are now fully set on body boards and wetsuits for Christmas. Chickens, however, won't be on the presents list this year I'm afraid! Clovelly was nearby and the day we went it was bathed in stunning autumn sunshine... Reflections at turning 40: 4 decades lived!

I'm on the cusp of a milestone birthday... I'll be 40 next week! Apologies but due to a certain virus there will be no party. However, there is this blog post, so grab a cuppa and sit down with me for a bit of... reminiscing, maybe a bit of wisdom on the side, perhaps we can call this a review. Like a film. It's had its ups and downs, but mostly it's been an exercise in interesting plot twists! What's funny is that my major life turns happened quite neatly by decade, four very different decades so far. Decade one: nothing really The only way I know anything about my childhood is through (few) photos. No memories. I have no memories of anything before about age 12. None. I can't remember my sister coming along when I was 6, I can't remember anything about primary school... it's just blank.
